"The way I dress is none of your business"

Some may argue that we're not responsible for how other people think. After all, some men will lust after a woman no matter what she wears. That's true enough. But, there's one thing that's within our control:our own motives.
We can discern those by asking ourselves the following questions:

  • -Do I dress to get attention or to entice?
  • -Am I trying to maintain a certain image?
  • -Do I hope to boost my low self-esteem?
  • -Am I trying to push the envelope because of what I think is an unfair dress code?

Modesty doesn't have to mean wearing sack-cloth or foregoing makeup and jewelry. As with all other decisions, wisdom is the key.

"Modesty is a posture of the heart." -Joshua Harris

{Proverbs 31:25}
She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.

{Proverbs 31:30}
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

{Matthew 18:6-9}
6 But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.
7 “What sorrow awaits the world, because it tempts people to sin. Temptations are inevitable, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting.
8 So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

{1 Timothy 2:9-10}
9 And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.

{1 Peter 3:3-6}
3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes.
4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands.
6 For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.
