Listen to your Heart

Our society loves and lives by the mantra, "Listen to your heart." Undoubtedly you've heard that in a movie or TV shows. That seemingly sage advice is inescapable. On the surface, it sounds good, especially if you're a person of high -self-reliance or you're know for your common sense. After all, is there anyone who knows what you want better than you? Or so we're told. But this advice has a flaw-it leave God out of the equation.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. Our hearts are sometimes undiscovered country-terriain he's traversed long before we explore it. The prophet Jeremiah warns us not to depend on what our hearts tells us because our hearts can deceive us (Jeremiah 17:9). Sometimes that strong urge of the heart is nothing but a gut, emotional reaction or the onset of PMS. We don't always know what's best, and ignoring what our Counselor tells us set us up for trouble.

God promises to offer guidance and wisdom to live the kind of life that's pleasing to him. Better still, he offers us the Holy Spirit who takes up residence within us and provides personalized guidance. (John 14:16-17;26;16:7-11.) And God's overall will for our lives can be summed up by two commandments, "Love your Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind," and "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37,39).

Instead of depending on what we feel is best, we're invited to listen to the Holy Spirit. He'll never steer us wrong.
-Woman's Devotional Bible

{Proverbs 3:5-6}
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

 {Ephesians 1:18}
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
